Dr. Jerry Bagel, MD

Dr. Bagel is a nationally recognized expert in the treatment of psoriasis and is regularly invited to speak across the country and internationally about this medical condition and its treatment. Dr. Bagel has been named a Top Doctor in the Castle Connolly Medical Top Doctors of the New York Metro Area every year from 2001-2015. He was named a 2005 New Jersey Top Doctor by New Jersey Life; a Best Doctor in New Jersey by New Jersey Monthly in 2001 and 2003; and received a Patients’ Choice award in 2008 as well as in Inside Jersey in 2013 and 2015. He is a four term member of the medical advisory board of the National Psoriasis Foundation. Dr. Bagel is an Editor of Practical Dermatology and the Assistant Editor of Psoriasis Forum. He has published extensively on the topic of psoriasis in such journals as The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and The Journal of Drugs & Dermatology. Dr. Bagel loves spending his free time at the beach, watching the Mets and enjoying great cuisine!

John Kraft, HBSc, MD, FRCPC

Dr. John Kraft is a board-certified dermatologist who practises at Lynde Institute for Dermatology in Markham. He is a member of the Canadian Dermatology Association where he has served on the Membership and Awards Committee. Dr. Kraft is a GTA Regional Representative for the Dermatology Association of Ontario. He is also a Dermatology Examiner for the Royal College. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery.

Dr. Kraft completed his HBSc (0T2), Medical Degree (0T6) and Residency in Dermatology at the University of Toronto in 2011 where he served as Chief Resident. 

Dr. Kraft acts as an investigator for many clinical trials including those for novel skin therapeutics at Lynderm Research and Probity Research.  He has published papers in peer-reviewed journals and has spoken at international and national dermatology scientific conferences. 

Dr. Kraft enjoys teaching medical students and resident physicians from across Ontario and has won the Markham Family Medicine Teaching Unit Award for Teaching Excellence in 2014 and 2017.

Jonathan Silverberg, MD

Dr. Jonathan Silverberg is an associate professor of dermatology at George Washington University in Washington, where he is also director of clinical research and contact dermatitis. 

Dr. Silverberg’s clinical subspecialty is inflammatory skin disease, particularly atopic dermatitis and contact dermatitis. His research interests include comorbidities and burden of itch and inflammatory skin disease, evidence-based dermatology, patient-reported outcomes, and dermatoepidemiology, as well as health services research, drug development, clinical trial design, and biomarkers. He has published more than 600 peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, and book chapters, and has appeared frequently on the pages of Dermatology News.

David Altman, MD

Dr. Altman is an expert in general Dermatology and dermatologic laser surgery. He pursued undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan, and then continued at the University of Michigan for medical school. He completed a year of Internal Medicine training at Northwestern University in Chicago, then finished his residency in Dermatology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Dr. Altman is a board certified dermatologist.

Dr. Altman is the chief of the division of Dermatology at St. John’s Macomb hospital in Warren Michigan, and is part of the teaching faculty for the St. Joseph’s Mercy, Livingston, Dermatology residency training program and is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Michigan State University School of Medicine.

He is a member of the consulting staff at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Harper Hospital and St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor.

Dr. Altman is a past executive board member of the Michigan Dermatological Society having already served as the President of that Society. He is the author of many academic publications and presentations as well as text book chapters . Dr. Altman has been named to numerous “Best Doctor” and “Top Doctor” lists, including the Hour Magazine of Detroit list for many consecutive years.

Dr. David Altman practices at the Warren Center Location of the Midwest Center for Dermatology Cosmetic Surgery.

Leon Kircik, MD, FAAD

Leon Kircik, MD is a Board Certified Dermatologist who graduated with AOA Honors from State University of New York at the Health Sciences Center at Brooklyn after completing his undergraduate work with Phi Beta Kappa at New York University. He completed a Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology Fellowship under the auspices of Dr. Frederick Mohs at the University of Wisconsin after completing his dermatology residency at State University of New York in Buffalo.

He currently teaches as Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City and Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN.  Dr. Kircik is also the Medical Director of DermResearch, PLLC , Physicians Skin Care, PLLC  and Skin Sciences, PLLC in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr Kircik is also the president and founder of International Dermatology Education Foundation (IDEF) which is a non- profit organization with the goal of promoting dermatologic disease awareness and education globally.  He has been the principal investigator of numerous clinical trials for psoriasis, acne, rosacea, atopic dermatitis, skin cancers, and actinic keratosis, just to name a few.

 

Faculty

Catherine Maari, MD

Our chair, Dr. Catherine Maari graduated in Medicine from McGill University. She completed her residency training in dermatology at the University of Montreal and her postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric dermatology at the University of California in San Diego.

Dr. Maari is an Associate Clinical Professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Montreal and currently practices dermatology at the University of Montreal teaching hospital (CHUM) and Saint-Justine Hospital.

Dr. Maari is actively engaged in research. She is an investigator at Innovaderm, where she has been involved in numerous clinical studies in various areas of dermatology, including psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, acne and facial wrinkles.
